Community Benefits

Alongside the construction works, the Project Team have been working with various groups, organisations, businesses, schools, civic leaders, and members of the community to delivery Community Benefits for the town.

What are Community Benefits?

The Industry Standard for construction contractors is to: offer financial assistance such as donations/ sponsorships; provide labour, plant and materials for community projects; offer employment and training opportunities; and assist with community activities.

As of June 2022, the below Community Benefits statistics were achieved:

 

 The Scheme are proud to report that, as well as meeting Industry Standard, the Community Benefits work has also been recognised by the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

Below are some of the highlights from the Community Benefits which have been happening in the town.

Salvation Army Christmas Appeal Response

December 2021

After a very successful Christmas Campaign in 2020, the Project Team worked with Big Dog Fabrications, Campbell Contracts and Mast Construction to delivery goods to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

Out and About Group: More Benches

February 2022

Armed with ‘refurbished with love’ benches provided by Maciej Wydro, the yard gang of local workers assisted in fulfilling the commitment made to restore and install as many quality benches as possible on behalf of the Out and About Group. Fourteen benches were delivered and installed across the town in areas such as: Stirches Primary School; Roxburghe Drive; Howdenbank; Bowden Park; Sleepy Valley, Burnfoot; Hawick Golf Course (Common Good land); and William Laidlaw Hall, Bonchester Bridge.

 

All Accessibility at Artbeat Studios

March 2022

Registered charity, Artbeat Studios, who lease their premises from Escape Youth Services (another local charity), offer inclusive support and facilities for the arts with the aim to provide a non-judgement environment. They had previous had issues with accessibility to the premises. From the initial ‘industrial’ proposal to resolve the accessibility, the team of local men delivered an aesthetically-pleasing, all accessible, clean space to compliment their new patio doors.
